Our Story
We Make the Future Electric
At NEMA, we connect people, communities, and industries to what’s possible.
We represent the companies that power America’s future: from the technologies lighting our homes, to the systems securing our grids, to the manufacturing capacity that keeps our nation competitive.
For 100 years, we’ve helped build the electrical backbone of the United States.
Today, that work matters more than ever.
A Century of Electrifying Progress
Founded in 1926 as an ANSI-accredited standards body, we helped bring the first modern U.S. grid online. Our early members shaped how Americans lived, worked, and connected, setting a high bar for safe, reliable electrical products during the first great wave of electrification.
Now, as we enter our centennial year, the world is electrifying again.
Only this time, the stakes are higher and the pace is faster.
We Power What’s Next
America is facing a once-in-a-generation surge in electricity demand. Data centers and artificial intelligence (AI), domestic manufacturing, transportation electrification, and digitalization are rapidly transforming our energy landscape.
We’re not only keeping pace with that change. We’re driving it.
- Advancing policies that strengthen U.S. manufacturing and keep industry competitive.
- Publishing market-shaping research, including our grid reliability roadmap.
- Setting the standards that ensure safety, efficiency, and interoperability across sectors.
- Helping utilities, innovators, and policymakers build a cleaner, smarter, more resilient electric future.
- Convening leaders across the electroindustry to solve the challenges of skyrocketing demand.
From factory floors to hospitals, from EV charging corridors to semiconductor fabrication, our members create the technologies that keep America moving.
Turning Strategy Into Impact
