Creating an Electrified Energy System that Connects the World
NEMA  >  Energy Reliability

Powering the Electric Future

Our members are creating an electrified energy system that connects people to progress and Americans to a more electric future. Electrical products help people do, achieve, and experience more, propelling our connected world – electrifying transportation, modernizing the power grid, automating the built environment, and decarbonizing industry.

Mapping an Electrified Economy

America’s future energy system features key technologies that electrify, protect, and conserve.

  • Microgrids that generate and store energy locally

  • Smart, efficient, and sustainable buildings that integrate safety systems like fault protection, emergency lighting, fire detection and alarm systems, and surge protection

  • E-mobility solutions that decarbonize transportation

  • Industrial systems that conserve energy and optimize manufacturing

We work closely with state, local, and federal policymakers to help accelerate this transformation.

Focus Areas & Objectives

NEMA successfully worked with Congress on key provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to enable electrical manufacturers to modernize our grid and electrify our economy, securing:

  • $500 million through the Defense Production Act to support availability of critical minerals and technologies.

  • $30 billion in tax credits to accelerate domestic manufacturing of renewable energy components.

  • $30 billion in targeted clean energy grant and loan programs for state and electric utilities.

  • $10 billion in investment tax credits to build manufacturing facilities for electric vehicles, wind turbines and solar panels.

  • Over $9 billion for federal procurement of American-made clean technologies.
