By American electrical manufacturing industry leaders: NEMA, Eaton, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Southwire, TESCO
There has been a lot of talk on both sides of the political aisle about the importance of reinvesting in domestic manufacturing and delivering good-paying jobs for Americans —and the investments and policies needed to strengthen our nation’s manufacturing sector and supply chains. While those conversations continue, we’re taking action.
As leaders in the American electrical manufacturing industry, we’ve spent our careers building, innovating, and competing in a sector that contributes more than $250 billion into the U.S. economy. Today, as industry advocates, job creators, and Americans, we are coming together to say one thing loud and clear: we believe in American manufacturing, and we’re proud to stand behind our commitment through the National Electrical Manufacturers Association’s (NEMA’s) Make It American™ program.
NEMA launched the Make It American certification program to provide clarity, confidence, and credibility to manufacturers navigating complex domestic content rules set by Build America, Buy America (BABA) requirements. This initiative builds on NEMA’s long-standing commitment to U.S. manufacturing leadership by offering a rigorous, third-party verified certification that supports compliance with federal requirements while promoting investment in U.S.-based production. This effort is not just about federal infrastructure funding and domestic preference compliance, it is about the mission behind it.
Make It American is more than a label. It’s a pledge and a promise to our industry peers, our communities, and our country that we’re investing in the future of domestic manufacturing. We’re doing it because we believe that the American industrial base is a strategic asset — one that deserves our full support and long-term commitment.
For the needed investments in electrical infrastructure to deliver a lasting impact, however, we must continue prioritizing policies that grow and strengthen domestic manufacturing. That means investing in both infrastructure itself and the industrial base and the workforce that support it.
To fully realize this vision, domestic manufacturing goals and trade policy must be aligned. While U.S. manufacturers are stepping up to meet BABA requirements and build more here at home, we need consistent, coordinated policies that ensure fair competition, incentivize domestic production, and reinforce resilient, regional supply chains.
In a time of global uncertainty, empowering resilient supply chains and sustainable growth for America are absolute necessities. The electrical manufacturing industry powers everything from homes and hospitals to data centers and defense systems. When we strengthen our domestic supply chains, we don’t just strengthen American electrical manufacturing companies — we protect the backbone of our economy and our national security.
The Make It American certification tells our customers, industry partners, and communities that we are doing our part to restore and reimagine American manufacturing. It tells the next generation of manufacturers, engineers, technicians, and electricians that there is a future for them in this industry — not just jobs, but careers with purpose and pride.
This is a moment of opportunity and investment. We’re sourcing more materials domestically, training more American workers, and investing in new technologies that keep our country on the cutting edge technologically. This program represents a shared commitment across industries to grow and strengthen the U.S. manufacturing base and ensure that we lead not only in consuming technology, but also in building it. With new investments, new energy, and a renewed sense of national purpose, we can usher in a new era of American industry — one built on innovation, resilience, and reliability.
We’re proud to stand with other manufacturers and trade associations who are stepping up and doing their part to build a smarter, more self-reliant America. We encourage all American electrical manufacturers to join us. It’s not just good business, it’s good for our energy future.
Signed,
