MITA Expresses Disappointment with Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) Final Rule

November 3, 2023

Washington, D.C. – The Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance (MITA) – the leading trade association representing manufacturers of medical imaging equipment, radiopharmaceuticals, contrast media, and focused ultrasound therapeutic devices – today expressed concern regarding Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) decision to finalize significant physician payment cuts in the Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) final rule. The final rule includes a 3% percent cut to radiology, a 3% percent cut to nuclear medicine, and a 4% percent cut to interventional radiology.

“As the voice of the medical imaging community, MITA is extremely concerned that the proposed rule’s payment cuts would undermine physicians’ ability to continue to provide high-quality imaging services to patients,” said Patrick Hope, Executive Director, MITA. “MITA will continue to work with the CMS and Congress to mitigate the final fee schedule’s impact on physicians and patients’ access to care.”

In September, MITA submitted a comment letter to CMS outlining its concerns with the cuts. In its letter, MITA emphasized that continued payment cuts to physicians will result in significant challenges for the viability of physician practices.
