STATEMENT: NEMA Endorsed Critical Mineral Consistency Act Passes Out of Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee

May 1, 2025

NEMA Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Spencer Pederson issued the following statement after the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee unanimously passed bipartisan legislation that will help develop a reliable supply chain for critical minerals:

“Critical minerals play a crucial role in accelerating a more resilient and electrified future. Electrical manufacturers use critical minerals in products and technologies throughout the energy system, including electrical and digital solutions in buildings, industrial operations, and in grid and transportation applications.

“The advancement of the Critical Mineral Consistency Act through Committee brings us one step closer to reaching our goals by removing dependence on unreliable foreign sources like China for the raw materials that are essential to the electroindustry and will help bolster supply chains. We thank Chairman Lee and Ranking Member Heinrich for working in a bipartisan fashion to quickly refine and advance this important measure. NEMA urges the Senate and Congress to swiftly send this legislation to President Trump to be signed into law.”
